Justin’s professional background encompasses executive leadership positions across a myriad of industries including hospitality, finance, and real estate.

Justin spent nearly a decade as the co-owner/operator of Mayahuel, New York City’s iconic tequila and mezcal destination. Under his leadership, Mayahuel earned the title of “Best New Cocktail Bar in the World” at the 2010 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards and became a globally recognized benchmark for innovation, consumer education and operational prowess.

 

During his tenure at Mayahuel, Justin also served as executive advisor to Dzaner & Co, LLP, an alternative investment hedge fund with an exclusive focus on the VIX (a key measure of near-term volatility conveyed by the S&P 500). Justin played a key role in developing and executing a comprehensive capital-raising strategy for Dzaner & Co, effectively positioning the firm’s advanced quantitative models and proprietary algorithms to investors.

Before returning to Charleston in 2020, Justin served as Director of Business Development and Operations for Ward Hospitality - a subsidiary of Ward Capital Management - where he led large-scale initiatives focused on vertical growth, systems optimization, and experiential excellence. Shapiro’s leadership responsibilities included advising on property acquisition and development initiatives, delivering end-to-end F&B solutions (from concept and design through menu planning and equipment specification), overseeing financial planning and capital strategy, and setting and guiding overall operations for full-service, lifestyle, and boutique hotel assets.
